A Community Connection
Creating New Jobs, Cultivating Lasting Careers, Building Better Communities
For more than 25 years, Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) has brought satisfying careers and new opportunities to small communities, mid-sized metropolitan areas and major cities across the nation. We are proud to be the United States’ largest and leading partnership corrections provider to federal, state and local governments. Because of our proven record, CCA is continually entrusted to keep communities safe and securely house thousands of inmates on behalf of respected corrections agencies.
CCA is proud of our record as a strong partner to local communities. More than 17,500 proud CCA employees have made our company their professional home, and our 65 prisons, jails and detention centers enrich local economies of all types. With CCA, America’s hardworking taxpayers and partnering governments benefit with needed jobs, the best in corrections services at the most competitive cost and solid community partnership.
Job Creation
CCA has earned a reputation for bringing desirable and stable employment to every CCA community. These are more than just jobs; they are recession-resistant, lifelong careers for dedicated professionals. In some communities hit hard by the recession and the decline in manufacturing, farming or other industries, we’ve experienced incredible turnouts of hundreds of capable men and women looking for a real opportunity. The thousands of people who live and work in CCA communities believe that our presence provides a strong financial foundation that means stronger communities and more stable households – in more than 19 states and the District of Columbia.
CCA typically employs around 300 people at each of our facilities, with up to 85 percent hired directly from the local and regional workforce. They work as nurses, teachers, clerks, managers, administrators, correctional officers and in other professional roles. And they receive competitive salaries and full benefits, which include paid training, paid time off, health insurance, a 401 (k) retirement savings plan and much more.
Economic Impact
When CCA comes to a community, it typically means hundreds of thousands - and, in many cases, millions – invested in new construction, infrastructure improvements, community purchases and local hiring. As a result, CCA’s impact is significant and positive. Our presence stimulates local and regional economies, increases demand for local goods and services, and generates significant tax revenues. CCA-owned facilities pay millions of dollars in local property taxes, unlike government-operated facilities, which are exempt from such taxes. CCA also pays sales taxes on goods and services purchased locally. This means better schools, new libraries, cleaner parks and safer roads for communities and families.
Community Participation
At CCA, we recognize that we have a responsibility to communities. We are often one of the largest employers in a community, and we actively participate in local business and civic life. Our employees volunteer their time and raise funds for charitable causes and nonprofit organizations. Giving back to communities that have given so much to CCA is rooted in our company culture. It’s the way we work.
